Mckenzie Cooper to perform in virtual flute recital Saturday

YOUNGSTOWN —Flutist Mckenzie Cooper will perform in a virtual recital for Saturday's McDonough Museum Honors Recital Series.

The performance will begin at 7 p.m. and will be available on the McDonough Museum and Cliffe College of Creative Arts YouTube channels.

Cooper is a senior flute performance major from Butler, Pa., who is graduating this summer.

The pieces she will perform are "Orange Dawn" by Ian Clarke, "Serenade for Flute and Piano, Op. 35" by Howard Hanson, "Concerto for Piccolo and Piano, Op. 50, II. Adagio" by Lowell Liebermann and "Sonata for Flute and Piano, Op. 23, I. Lento; II. Presto" by Liebermann.

She is a fan of contemporary classical music and music that makes use of extended techniques and quarter tones.

Cooper performs in a woodwind trio and has been a member of the YSU Wind Ensemble every semester since her freshman year. Her plans are to eventually attend graduate school.

  • Sierra McCorvey, soprano — 7 p.m. Feb. 27;
  • Bruce Deal, tuba — 7 p.m. April 10;
  • Bin Peng, flute — 7 p.m. April 24.
