YOUNGSTOWN — There will be a memorial service at 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Kilcawley Center fountain at Youngstown State University for Michael Jerryson, a YSU professor who died in July at age 47 after a three-year battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.

The service will be followed by a tree-planting ceremony. For more information, contact Diana Palardy at dqpalardy@ysu.edu.

In addition to teaching religious studies at YSU, Jerryson also edited or wrote nine books that can be seen on his website

"He was a person who lived in the present," Palardy told Mahoning Matters in July. "This is one of the things students always said: He made you feel like the most important person in the room. ... He really lived in the moment and had a wonderful, warm, caring smile."
