Ohio again remains below 1,000 new COVID-19 cases
COLUMBUS — For the second consecutive day, Ohio is reporting fewer than 1,000 new confirmed coronavirus cases.
On Sunday, the Ohio Department of Health reported 916 new cases, bringing Ohio's total to 88,134.
Through Friday, Ohio had reported more than 1,000 new cases in 23 of the past 24 days, including Thursday's pandemic record of 1,649.
In addition, the state is also reporting 4,897 "probable cases," which is an expanded case definition provided by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. That number is 29 higher than in Saturday's report.
Statewide, 10,900 people have been hospitalized to date, 2,560 of whom were placed in intensive care units. Those numbers are up 43 and three from Saturday's report.
There also have been 3,261 confirmed deaths to date, along with another 268 "probable deaths." The confirmed deaths total increased by 15 since Saturday.
Of the confirmed cases, ODH says 62,275 are "presumed recovered." That number is 1,026 higher than reported on Saturday.
There have been 2,393 confirmed and probable cases to date in Mahoning County, 1,421 in Trumbull and 1,570 in Columbiana. There have been 253 confirmed and probable deaths to date in Mahoning County, 103 in Trumbull and 60 in Columbiana.
During the pandemic, there have been 411 patients hospitalized in Mahoning, 288 in Trumbull and 168 in Columbiana.
Statewide overall, 68,394 COVID-19 patients are presumed to have recovered from the virus. That includes 1,792 patients in Mahoning County, 1,074 patients in Trumbull and 1,373 in Columbiana. That metric is measured as the number of COVID-19 patients whose symptoms reportedly began more than 21 days ago but who have not died.
Mahoning County's 253 COVID-19 deaths remains the fourth-highest among all Ohio's 88 counties, according to the state's COVID-19 dashboard, which presents confirmed cases, hospitalizations and deaths in each county.
Mahoning County has the ninth-highest number of total cases in the state, Columbiana County the 14th-highest number and Trumbull County the 15th-highest.
