YOUNGSTOWN — Ohio North East Health Systems was awarded a $747,863 grant by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

The grant was funded by the American Rescue Plan for COVID-19 efforts.

Community Action Agency of Columbiana County was awarded $612,739.

“With the COVID-19 pandemic continuing to surge, these funds will provide much needed support for Ohio North East Health Systems and Asian Services [which was awarded $529,315] as they care for Northeast Ohioans,” U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan of Howland, D-13th, said in a news release. “Ohio North East Health Systems and Asian Services are leaders in our communities, and these funds will allow them to continue to provide the health care and services needed here in Northeast Ohio."

The grant awards are part of more than $6 billion to community health centers nationwide, which will be able to use the funds to expand operational capacity during the pandemic and beyond, including modifying and improving physical infrastructure and adding mobile units, the release states.

“Thanks to the American Rescue Plan, this funding will allow health care centers across Ohio to expand their critical health care infrastructure and provide the necessary services to the communities they serve,” U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, said in a news release.
