Ohio reporting 2,331 new COVID-19 cases; 191,069 total

COLUMBUS — According to the latest figures today from the Ohio Department of Health, the state is reporting 191,069 confirmed cases of the new coronavirus, or COVID-19, to date — 2,331 more than reported Monday, including 55 new cases in the Mahoning Valley.

Of the state’s total cases, about 24,438 are presumed to be active infections.

The weekly volume of virus testing statewide has slightly increased in the past week. The average percent of positive tests continues an upward trend that began Sept. 24, when positivity was at an all-time low. The average positivity rate has doubled since then.

So far this month, agencies statewide administered an average 7,628 more tests per day than in September.

CASES, DEATHS AND HOSPITALIZATIONS

There have been 3,889 confirmed and probable cases to date in Mahoning County, 2,404 in Trumbull and 2,190 in Columbiana. There have been 287 confirmed and probable deaths to date in Mahoning County; 134 in Trumbull; and 88 in Columbiana.

Since yesterday’s report, there have been 26 new cases in Mahoning County; 24 in Trumbull; and five in Columbiana.

Mahoning County's 287 COVID-19 deaths are the fifth-highest among all Ohio's 88 counties, according to the state's COVID-19 dashboard, which presents confirmed cases, hospitalizations and deaths in each county.

Mahoning County has the 10th-highest number of cumulative cases in the state; Trumbull has the 21st-highest; and Columbiana has the 23rd-highest.

Ohio is also reporting 11,671 "probable cases” statewide, which is an expanded case definition provided by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Statewide, 18,433 people have been hospitalized to date, 3,771 of whom were placed in intensive care units. There have also been 4,927 confirmed deaths to date, along with another 312 “probable deaths”.

TESTING AND RECOVERY

So far this month, 955,781 coronavirus tests have been administered in Ohio, an average of about 38,231 per day. A total of 926,782 people were tested in September, an average of about 30,603 per day.

The seven-day moving average for positive tests was 5.7 percent on Sunday. That’s above the average 2.7 percent reported on Sept. 24, the lowest point since the pandemic began. That average percent peaked April 20 at 23.6 percent.

Statewide, 161,704 COVID-19 patients are presumed to have recovered from the virus. That includes 3,088 patients in Mahoning County, 1,944 in Trumbull and 1,934 in Columbiana. That metric is measured as the number of COVID-19 patients whose symptoms reportedly began more than 21 days ago but who have not died.
