Ohio reporting 348 new cases of COVID-19; 2,547 total

COLUMBUS — According to the latest figures today from the Ohio Department of Health, the state is reporting 2,547 cases of the new coronavirus, or COVID-19 — 348 more than reported Tuesday.

Statewide, 679 people have been hospitalized, 222 of whom are in intensive care units.

There are 177 confirmed cases in Mahoning County; 58 in Trumbull; and 19 in Columbiana.

Statewide, there have been 65 deaths, including 10 in Mahoning County; 3 in Trumbull; and 2 in Columbiana.

Mahoning County's 10 reported COVID-19 deaths remains the highest among all Ohio's 88 counties, according to the state's COVID-19 dashboard, which presents confirmed cases, hospitalizations and deaths in each county.

Based on the state figures released Tuesday, Mahoning County had the highest number of COVID-19 cases per capita among the state's most populous counties with confirmed cases and the counties with the most confirmed cases.

With an estimated population of 228,683 people and 177 confirmed cases as of Wednesday, that's one case of the virus for every 1,291 people.

According to Wednesday's figures, Mahoning County has the third-highest number of cases in the state, behind Cuyahoga and Franklin counties. It only has about a fifth of the population of those counties, however.

Cuyahoga County is reporting 589 confirmed cases and 9 deaths; Franklin is reporting 391 cases and 4 deaths.
