Ohio reporting 399 new cases of COVID-19; 37,519 total

COLUMBUS — According to the latest figures today from the Ohio Department of Health, the state is reporting 37,519 confirmed cases of the new coronavirus, or COVID-19 — 399 more than reported Thursday.

In addition, the state is also reporting 2,905 "probable cases," which is a new expanded case definition provided by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Statewide, 6,814 people have been hospitalized, 1,745 of whom were admitted to intensive care units.

There are 1,576 cases in Mahoning County; 642 in Trumbull; and 914 in Columbiana.

Statewide, there have been 2,280 confirmed deaths, including 204 in Mahoning County; 53 in Trumbull; and 55 in Columbiana; along with another 228 "probable deaths".

Mahoning County's 204 reported COVID-19 deaths remains the fourth-highest among all Ohio's 88 counties, according to the state's COVID-19 dashboard, which presents confirmed cases, hospitalizations and deaths in each county.

Mahoning County has the eighth-highest number of total cases in the state. With an estimated population of 228,683 people and 1,576 confirmed cases as of Friday, that's about one case of the virus for every 145 people.
