Ohio reporting 774 new cases of COVID-19; 54,232 total
COLUMBUS — According to the latest figures today from the Ohio Department of Health, the state is reporting 54,232 confirmed cases of the new coronavirus, or COVID-19 — 774 more than reported Sunday.
In addition, the state is also reporting 3,724 "probable cases," which is a new expanded case definition provided by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Statewide, 8,249 people have been hospitalized, 2,077 of whom are in intensive care units.
There are 1,828 cases in Mahoning County; 967 in Trumbull; and 1,318 in Columbiana.
Statewide, there have been 2,677 confirmed deaths, including 232 in Mahoning County; 70 in Trumbull; and 60 in Columbiana; along with another 250 "probable deaths".
Statewide, 40,813 COVID-19 patients are presumed to have recovered from the virus. That includes 1,410 patients in Mahoning County; 643 patients in Trumbull; and 869 in Columbiana. That metric is measured as the number of COVID-19 patients whose symptoms reportedly began more than 21 days ago but who have not died.
Mahoning County's 232 reported COVID-19 deaths remains the fourth-highest among all Ohio's 88 counties, according to the state's COVID-19 dashboard, which presents confirmed cases, hospitalizations and deaths in each county.
Mahoning County has the ninth-highest number of total cases in the state. With an estimated population of 228,683 people and 1,828 confirmed cases as of Monday, that's about one case of the virus for every 125 people.
