Ohio reports 1,015 new coronavirus cases; 97,363 total
COLUMBUS — According to the latest figures today from the Ohio Department of Health, the state is reporting 97,373 confirmed cases of the new coronavirus, or COVID-19, to-date — 1,015 more than reported Monday.
In addition, the state is also reporting 5,453 "probable cases," which is an expanded case definition provided by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Statewide, 11,760 people have been hospitalized to-date, 2,699 of whom were placed in intensive care units. There have also been 3,435 confirmed deaths to-date, along with another 273 "probable deaths".
There have been 2,595 confirmed and probable cases to-date in Mahoning County; 1,549 in Trumbull; and 1,671 in Columbiana. There have been 255 confirmed and probable deaths to-date in Mahoning County; 108 in Trumbull; and 60 in Columbiana.
There were 17,379 people tested Sunday, according to the state dashboard. The daily percent of positive tests was 4.5 percent. The seven-day moving average for positive tests is 5.1 percent.
Statewide, 80,885 COVID-19 patients are presumed to have recovered from the virus. That includes 1,997 patients in Mahoning County; 1,213 patients in Trumbull; and in 1,437 Columbiana. That metric is measured as the number of COVID-19 patients whose symptoms reportedly began more than 21 days ago but who have not died.
Mahoning County's 255 COVID-19 deaths dropped to the fifth-highest among all Ohio's 88 counties, according to the state's COVID-19 dashboard, which presents confirmed cases, hospitalizations and deaths in each county.
Mahoning County has the ninth-highest number of total cases in the state. With an estimated population of 228,683 people and 2,595 confirmed and probable cases as of Tuesday, that's about one case of the virus for every 88 people.
Columbiana County has the fourteenth-highest number of total cases in the state. Trumbull County has the fifteenth-highest.
