COLUMBUS — For the first time in 19 days, Ohio is reporting fewer than 1,000 new confirmed cases of the coronavirus.

The state on Sunday reported 838 additional confirmed COVID-19 cases, bringing Ohio's total throughout the pandemic to 79,573.

That increase snapped an 18-day streak where Ohio reported at least 1,000 new confirmed cases.

In Saturday's report, the increase was 1,426.

In addition, the state is reporting 4,500 "probable cases" to date, which is a new expanded case definition provided by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. That total is 51 more than in Saturday's report by the Ohio Department of Health.

There have been 2,258 cases in Mahoning County, 1,300 in Trumbull and 1,492 in Columbiana.

Statewide, 10,199 people have been hospitalized to date — 54 more than in Saturday's report.

Of those, 2,444 in total have been admitted to intensive care units, an increase of seven from Saturday.

Mahoning has 398 hospitalizations, Trumbull has 270 and Columbiana has 165, the same totals as reported on Saturday.

Statewide, there have been 3,049 confirmed deaths to date, 10 more than in Saturday's report. Those deaths include 244 in Mahoning, 95 in Trumbull and 60 in Columbiana. Trumbull's total grew by one; the other county totals are stable.

Ohio also has 258 probable deaths.

Of Ohio's confirmed cases, 54,689 COVID-19 patients are presumed to have recovered from the virus. That includes 1,589 patients in Mahoning County, 968 patients in Trumbull and 1,261 in Columbiana. That metric is measured as the number of COVID-19 patients whose symptoms reportedly began more than 21 days ago but who have not died.

Mahoning County's 244 reported COVID-19 deaths remain the fourth-highest among all Ohio's 88 counties, according to the state's COVID-19 dashboard, which presents confirmed cases, hospitalizations and deaths in each county.

Mahoning County has the 10th-highest number of total cases in the state. With an estimated population of 228,683 people, that's about one case of the virus for every 103 people.

Columbiana is 12th in the state in cases.
