Ohio surpasses 90,000 confirmed coronavirus cases
COLUMBUS — According to the latest figures today from the Ohio Department of Health, the state is reporting 90,041 confirmed cases of the new coronavirus, or COVID-19, to date — 1,044 more than reported Monday.
In addition, the state is also reporting 5,065 "probable cases," which is an expanded case definition provided by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Statewide, 11,119 people have been hospitalized to date; 2,593 of those patients had been in intensive care units.
There have also been 3,301 confirmed deaths to date, along with another 269 “probable deaths”.
There have been 2,437 confirmed and probable cases to date in Mahoning County; 1,451 in Trumbull; and 1,583 in Columbiana. There have been 253 confirmed and probable deaths to date in Mahoning County; 105 in Trumbull; and 60 in Columbiana.
There were 16,618 people tested Sunday, according to the state dashboard. The daily percent of positive tests was 5.5 percent. The seven-day moving average for positive tests is 5.7 percent.
Statewide, 71,338 COVID-19 patients are presumed to have recovered from the virus. That includes 1,860 patients in Mahoning County; 1,113 patients in Trumbull; and in 1,386 Columbiana. That metric is measured as the number of COVID-19 patients whose symptoms reportedly began more than 21 days ago but who have not died.
Mahoning County's 253 COVID-19 deaths remains the fourth-highest among all Ohio's 88 counties, according to the state's COVID-19 dashboard, which presents confirmed cases, hospitalizations and deaths in each county.
Mahoning County has the ninth-highest number of total cases in the state. With an estimated population of 228,683 people and 2,437 confirmed and probable cases as of Tuesday, that's about one case of the virus for every 94 people.
Columbiana County has the fourtheenth-highest number of total cases in the state. Trumbull County has the fifteenth-highest.
