Romeo-Juliet - OWR

YOUNGSTOWN — Opera Western Reserve is seeking local actors for its production of “Romeo + Juliet.”

The reimagined production will combine text from Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet” and orchestral and vocal music from Charles Gounod's “Roméo et Juliette” opera.

The roles of Romeo and Juliet will sing in the original French, cast with opera singers.

Opera Western Reserve is auditioning for the roles of Paris and Abram (stage combat experience is preferred for consideration for these roles), and Capulet, Lady Capulet, Montague, Lady Montague, Nurse and Friar, which will perform Shakespeare monologue and dialogue in English.

Auditions will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. Aug. 9 and 4 to 6 p.m. Aug. 10 at Stambaugh Auditorium, 1000 Fifth Ave. An advanced audition appointment is not necessary.

Actors should prepare a short Shakespearian monologue and be prepared to read an excerpt from Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet” in English, and should dress appropriately for movement.

OWR is casting performers of all ethnicities, gender identities and expressions, ages, abilities and body types for the mainstage, spoken roles.

Contracts are paid. Rehearsals begin in October, and the production will be performed with a reduced orchestra at Stambaugh Auditorium on Nov. 1.
