COLUMBUS — State Rep. Michele Lepore-Hagan (D-Youngstown) is pleased that the Ohio House has passed Senate Bill (SB) 163, legislation creating a Purple Heart/international access symbol license plate.
“Under current law, our veterans can apply for a license plate with the Purple Heart symbol, but they cannot have one that also includes the International Symbol of Access," Lepore-Hagan said in a news release. "This law will change that.
"Our disabled veterans have given so much to our country," Lepore-Hagan said. "This Purple Heart/international access symbol license plate recognizes their service and their sacrifice. I’m proud it’s passed the Ohio House."
Also happy with the passage is Leo H. Connelly, Jr., Junior Vice Commander of the Military Order of Purple Hearts Chapter 606 and Purple Heart recipient.
“I’m very honored to see this pass the Ohio House," Connolly said. "It is a great honor to recognize purple heart recipients, the blood they spilled, and those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
“We hope to continue to remind folks what the price of freedom is.”
The provision was included in SB 163 as an omnibus amendment with several other license plate creation proposals.
