Respect Basketball League begins on April 17 in Youngstown
YOUNGSTOWN — Mayor Jamael Tito Brown announced today (March 25) that a new Respect Basketball League for young men age 19 to 25 will start April 17.
The goal of the organization is to recruit up to 200 young men and provide them with life skills to improve their quality of life.
Respect Basketball League's mission is to reduce violence by pointing young men in the right direction through programs that include athletics, educational opportunities, mentoring and leadership skills.
These programs are designed to improve and inspire them as individuals and encourage them as productive members of the community.
Commissioner Randy Nuby is leading the Respect Basketball League with the support of the Central YCMA, the city of Youngstown, Community Initiative to Reduce Violence, Youngstown Police Department, Eastern Gateway Community College and other community organizations and leaders.
Brown will host a news conference at 1 p.m. on Friday at the Central YMCA of Youngstown, 17 N. Champion St., for more information about the program.
