Rev. David Bonnar to be ordained as Diocese of Youngstown bishop

The Mass of Ordination and Installation will take place at 2 p.m. Jan. 12 and can be watched on Fox Youngstown and will be livestreamed on the Cathedral of St. Columba’s website and wkbn.com.

YOUNGSTOWN — The Rev. David J. Bonnar is set to become the sixth bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Youngstown on Jan. 12.

Due to the pandemic, the Mass of Ordination and Installation is not open to the public, and the number of invitations has been restricted.

The ceremony will air at 2 p.m. on Fox Youngstown and will be livestreamed on the Cathedral of St. Columba’s website and wkbn.com.

The ceremony will be rebroadcast on the ETC-Ecumenical Television Channel at 12:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m. and 8 p.m. Jan. 14 and Jan. 16.

Bonnar was appointed bishop by Pope Francis on Nov. 17. He was pastor of St. Aidan Parish, Wexford, Pa., was born in Pittsburgh and ordained to the priesthood July 23, 1988. He served as a parochial vicar at St. Vitus, New Castle; St. Rosalia, Greenfield; and St. Thomas More, Bethel Park. He served as pastor of St. Bartholomew, Penn Hills; and St. Bernard, Mount Lebanon. He also served as administrator of Our Lady of Grace, Scott Township. For 12 years, Bonnar was chaplain of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
