Ryan and Midwest colleagues urge Senate to pass HEROES Act
YOUNGSTOWN — U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan of Howland joined other midwestern representatives to voice support for a new coronavirus relief package, called the HEROES Act.
On a call this morning, U.S. Reps. Ryan, Dan Kildee of Flint, Mich., Debbie Dingell of Detroit and John Yarmuth of Louisville, Ky. described how the bill would build on the support provided by the federal CARES Act.
The HEROES Act would provide $1,200 cash payments to individuals, with up to $6,000 per family. Unlike in the CARES Act, recipients would include college students and other dependents.
The legislation also includes $1 trillion for state, local, territorial and tribal governments and funding for mail-in voting to prepare for the November election.
"I know there are so many families out there unable to meet their obligations," said Ryan. "They're hanging on by their fingernails."
Text of the 1,800-page bill is available here.
