Now, more than ever, Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley deserve reliable, local reporting.

As a reader, you know that Mahoning Matters has been reporting on the issues that affect you — from the coronavirus to the upcoming elections and everything in-between. We also launched a Community Matters event series with Stambaugh Auditorium that has tackled topics of racism as a public health crisis, racial justice and policing, as well as what to expect as a voter this election season. Though virtual for now, we do expect someday to host these events in-person at the Stambaugh.

It's this kind of community-focused news that we know matters, because it's more than just bringing you headlines — it's having regular conversations and letting you ask some of the questions.

While we've had help getting launched, we know that we'll need the support of readers like you to survive for years to come. And we want to stay true to our mission of providing news that is free and accessible to everyone.

But there is a cost to delivering Mahoning Matters to you. To help us start on a path to be self-sustaining, we're launching a year-end contributors campaign. Our goal is to get 250 new monthly contributors — of at least $5 per month — by Dec. 31.

This money will help us continue to make sense of the important local issues in the Valley, bring you a wide array of voices and perspectives and build a strong foundation for independent, local journalism.

Will you make a contribution today and support local news that matters?

PS: You won't hear from us again for a couple of weeks about this end-of-year campaign because we'll be hard at work delivering local election results and sorting out the impacts on our communities. Stay tuned for more exciting news on how we're working to keep the "local" in local news after the elections.
