BROOKFIELD — Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley's Traveling Food Pantry will make a stop Wednesday at Yankee Lake, 1800 state Route 7 NE.

Assorted fresh produce and a variety of nonperishable food items can be picked up for free starting at 10 a.m.

State Sen. Sean O'Brien, D-Bazetta, will be joining Second Harvest for the food distribution.

"I am proud to work with the Second Harvest Food Bank on this important program, which is doing so much to help our community," O'Brien said in a news release. "This ongoing pandemic is exacerbating already existing food insecurities among families who call the Valley home, so those of us who are able need to do our part to chip in and assist our neighbors in need."

The Traveling Food Pantry organizers are asking families to wait until 9 a.m. to line up. In compliance with recommended COVID-19 precautions, the event will be set up as a no-contact distribution. Participants should remain in their vehicles with their windows rolled up and their trunks emptied, and volunteers will bring the food to their car.

Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley, a member of Feeding America, provides food to those in need in the tri-county area through 160 programs offered through hunger-relief organizations, including church and school pantries, homeless shelters, soup kitchens and shelters for battered women. In 2019, Second Harvest distributed a record 11.5 million pounds of food, including 3.4 million pounds of produce, the release states.
