Want to be a substitute teacher? 6 job fairs on tap

The Mahoning County events offer guidance on postings and applying.

Substitute teacher job fairs at six locations throughout Mahoning County are scheduled in July.

The Mahoning Valley Regional Council of Governments is hosting job fairs in conjunction with five local districts and the Educational Service Center of Eastern Ohio (formerly Mahoning County ESC).

“Substitute teaching is an opportunity for individuals from all sorts of backgrounds,” said Sandy Furano, director of the MVRCOG in a news release. “Individuals with any bachelor’s degree — even without specific experience in education — can qualify to substitute teach.”

The substitute teacher job fairs provide the opportunity to learn more about postings, apply and participate in on-site interviews.

“After a candidate applies, we help them through the simple process of obtaining an Ohio Substitute Teaching license and connect them with districts for placement,” Furano said. “From there, the substitutes have the opportunity to pick up postings as works with their needs and schedules.”

Individuals interested in substituting at the following locations should bring their resume and references to one of these job fairs:

  • Struthers City Schools, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Struthers High School cafe, 111 Euclid Ave., Struthers;
