WEEKEND MATTERS | Youngstown native to discuss ‘Car Bombs to Cookie Trays’

LIBERTY — Professor Jackie Marino will discuss her book Saturday at William Holmes McGuffey Historical Society's Memories of a Lifetime lecture series.
"Car Bombs to Cookie Trays" will be the subject for the 10 a.m. gathering at Kravitz Deli's Meeting Room, 3135 Belmont Ave. The program begins the society's 60th anniversary celebration.
Marino, a Youngstown native and Cardinal Mooney graduate, is a professor in the School of Media and Journalism at Kent State University.
She has published articles in Cleveland Magazine, The Plain Dealer, The Christian Science Monitor, Parents.com, The Washington Post, Philadelphia Magazine and other publications and journals.
McGuffey Historical Society programs are open to the public. Admission is $5 for members and $6 for nonmembers. Refreshments will be served, and a 50/50 raffle will benefit the society's education mission. Reservations are suggested. Walk-ins are admitted based on seat availability. Seating is limited due to social distancing.

Tria Corazó;n to perform for Dana Alumni Series
YOUNGSTOWN — Tria Corazó;n, composed of Youngstown State University Dana School of Music alumni Anna Reitsma, Elliot Kwolek and Emma Donkin, will be featured in a virtual performance debuting at 7 p.m. Saturday.
The performance is part of the Dana Alumni Recital Series, a partnership with the McDonough Museum of Art, and will be available on the Cliffe College of Creative Arts and McDonough YouTube channels.
Founded in 2018, Tria Corazó;n has played for numerous public events, and its aim is to promote new music and little-known works to audiences around eestern Pennsylvania and Northeast Ohio, a news release states.
Reitsma (flute) is a freelance flutist and teacher in the Greater Pittsburgh Region. She was a winner of the 2017 Dana Young Artist Competition and was a featured soloist on the 2018 Dana Symphony Orchestra spring concert on Nielsen's Flute Concerto.
Kwolek (clarinet) is a multi-instrumentalist, arranger, freelance musician and teacher in Beaver County. His instrumental proficiencies include clarinet, bassoon, oboe, flute and saxophone. He has performed as section clarinet in the YSU Wind Ensemble and is co-principal clarinet of the Dana Symphony Orchestra.
Donkin is a pianist and composer. She is a 2018 graduate of the Dana School of Music at YSU with a bachelor's degree in music composition. She is pursuing her master's degree in music composition at the University of Akron and will graduate in May.
JCC offers Treasure Dive family pool program
YOUNGSTOWN — The Jewish Community Center of Youngstown, 505 Gypsy Lane, will have a Treasure Dive from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. today.
In this family program, children will become explorers and search for treasure at the bottom of the pool. Included will be a visit from a pirate and mermaid.
