BELOIT — A six-person team of West Branch seventh- and eighth-grade students took third place at the recent statewide Knowledge Bowl competition.

Knowledge Bowl is a voluntary competition for students involved in the Career Based Intervention program across the state.

Students study thousands of questions from 20 categories, including arts, food, science and more.

The content comes from a number of sources, ranging from end of course exams and various credentials assessments to financial literacy and trivia.

Students from all levels in CBI programs across the state compete at the same time and are given the same 60 questions.

“For the middle school level, this can be challenging since some of the information they’re studying in Knowledge Bowl practices hasn’t been covered by their classes,” Scott Davis, CBI instructor at West Branch Local Schools, said in news release.
