YOUNGSTOWN — Youngstown City School District CEO Justin Jennings has ordered all school buildings closed and weekly food distribution suspended for two weeks amid the state's climbing coronavirus numbers.

The buildings will be closed beginning Friday, and there will be no food distribution the weeks of Nov. 16 or Nov. 23. The YOUCare clinics housed at East and Chaney high schools, however, will remain open for staff and students by appointment.

Remote instruction will continue.

"The most important thing is the health and safety of our scholars, staff, families and community," Jennings said. "The virus is spreading at a record pace, so I think it's best at this point to shut everything down for two weeks. After that, we will reevaluate to see where things are and decide whether it's safe to reopen. We all need to do our part to stop the spread of this deadly pandemic."
