YMCA donor pledges to match up to $6,000 for Giving Tuesday
YOUNGSTOWN — An anonymous donor has promised to match up to $6,000 of donations to the YMCA of Youngstown on Giving Tuesday.
Giving Tuesday, this year celebrated on Dec. 1, is a global movement to inspire people to give, collaborate and celebrate generosity.
The opportunity to participate the YMCA Scholastic Support Program, Swim Whisperers and to benefit from YMCA Membership is the focus of Giving Tuesday at the YMCA of Youngstown this year.
Donors wishing to make a contribution to the YMCA of Youngstown for Giving Tuesday should go to YMCAyo.org/givingtuesday.
Recognizing the challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, the YMCA pivoted efforts to address new critical needs.
The YMCA Scholastic Support Program is providing a safe, healthy environment, led by Y staff and tutors, assisting children with their online schoolwork while their parents are at work.
“This has been such a trying and hard time figuring out safe options for my children. I’m so [unbelievably] thankful for the YMCA,” said a Scholastic Support Program parent in a news release.
The Swim Whisperers Program at the Y is designed to teach children with developmental or physical differences to swim and help them acquire the lifelong skills to be safe, confident, and independent in the water.
YMCA Membership is for all, regardless of the ability to pay. Support from generous donors helps the Y supplement membership fees for those who need assistance.
