YOUNGSTOWN — Youngstown City Health District received its first shipment of the COVID-19 vaccines on Tuesday.

The health department received 800 doses of the vaccine from Moderna, which they will begin distributing next week, said Tara Cioffi, director of environmental health.

The department plans to vaccinate volunteers in the Youngstown Fire Department starting Dec. 30. Cioffi said they are still planning when residents and staff of congregate settings, such as recovery housing and mental health facilities, will receive the vaccine.

"We are finalizing our schedules, and hopefully we will have more set up next week," Cioffi said.

All nursing homes in Youngstown are receiving vaccines from CVS or Walgreens.

Youngstown City Health Department is working with Mahoning County Public Health to ensure everyone in Phase 1A of the distribution plan will receive the vaccine.
