Youngstown city schools plan to keep classes online in the fall
YOUNGSTOWN — Youngstown City Schools are planning to conduct classes online when school reopens at the end of August.
All schools are scheduled to start on Aug. 31 except Youngstown Rayen Early College High School, which will start on Aug. 10
Denise Dick, district spokesperson, said the school district has worked to improve computers and internet access for students. The district plans to provide computers for students through CARES Act funding and provide better internet access through nonprofit organization funding.
Classes could be augmented to hybrid or in-person learning later in the 2020-2021 school year, however. Changes will be made based on the COVID-19 pandemic, Dick said.
Gov. Mike DeWine is expected to announce the state's plan for reopening schools at 2 p.m. today.
Dick said his plan will most likely provide future guidelines for how to reopen schools safely but won't impact Youngstown schools' plan for the fall.
