YOUNGSTOWN — Youngstown City Schools announced the district will soon launch YCSD Parent YOU, a parent engagement program.

YCSD Chief of Family Engagement Linda Hoey said in a news release that Parent YOU will include special sessions for parents with valuable resources to help them on a personal level and to navigate their student’s academic journey.

“We are excited to share the new YCSD Parent YOU (Parent University) logo and will launch the program with online registration starting in February,” Hoey said.

The program encourages parents to participate in one of four Parent YOU pathways being offered at the beginning of February through May to gain knowledge from distinguished speakers and educational leaders.

Pathways that will be offered from February through May include:

  • Social-Emotional Learning/SEL/Health and Wellness
  • Literacy
  • Diversity
  • College and Career Awareness for English Learners Families

Parents will receive credits for participation and get awards for their accomplishments and continued learning.

The school district is asking local businesses and organizations to donate gift cards or other items to be used as giveaways during each of the sessions from February through May. A graduation ceremony will be held in June for those who fully participate by attending the January YCSD PRIDE meeting and the monthly sessions through May.

More information about Parent YOU is coming soon and will be highlighted in the virtual YCSD Parent PRIDE virtual meetings at 5 p.m. on Jan. 21. A Zoom meeting link will be made public soon.

Participants in the virtual meeting will hear from Award-Winning Chef, New York Times Best-Selling Author, Entrepreneur and Motivational Speaker Chef Jeff Henderson.

He started his culinary career in the unlikeliest of places: prison. While serving for nearly 10 years, Henderson discovered an untapped passion for cooking, which led to executive chef positions at Bellagio and Caesars Palace. His story has been featured on Oprah’s Life Class, Good Morning America, Today Show, ABC World News Tonight, CNN, and The Steve Harvey Show and in major publications.
