YOUNGSTOWN — The Youngstown Playhouse will have open auditions for the production of “Elf: The Musical” from 6 to 10 p.m. Sept. 28 and 29.
The production seeks actors age 15 and older. Consideration will be given to younger actors age 10 and older for the role of Michael.
Actors should prepare 16 to 32 bars of an uptempo musical theater song. Singing from the show is acceptable. Actors should bring clearly marked sheet music. An accompanist will be provided. Actors should be prepared to dance and bring comfortable clothing and footwear for movement.
Callbacks will take place from 6 to 10 p.m. Sept. 30. Rehearsals will begin Oct. 11, with technical rehearsals the week of Nov. 29. Rehearsals will take place weekday evenings from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m., and Saturdays during the day. Performances will take place Dec. 2, 3, 4, 10, 11 and 12.
The Youngstown Playhouse, 600 Playhouse Lane, requires COVID-19 vaccinations for eligible individuals as a condition of casting and participation. Vaccination cards will be required at auditions. Exceptions will be made only for participants under age 12 or participants with medical conditions.
The production is based on the 2003 movie “Elf,” starring Will Ferrell. “Elf” follows the tale of Buddy, a young orphan who mistakenly crawls into Santa’s bag of gifts and is transported back to the North Pole. Unaware that he is actually human, Buddy’s enormous size and poor toy-making abilities cause him to face the truth. With Santa’s permission, Buddy embarks on a journey to New York City to find his birth father, discover his true identity and help New York remember the true meaning of Christmas.
