Open auditions for “The Gone Away Place” will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. Sept. 13 and 14. Based on the young-adult novel by Youngstown State University professor Christopher Barzak, “The Gone Away Place” is adapted and directed by James Canacci and tells the story of Ellie, a high school student who survives a slew of tornadoes that rage through her Ohio hometown and must discover a way to free the spirits who have been lingering since the storm. The production seeks 12 to 15 young actors age 10 and older, including a female-identifying actor of Asian or Pacific Islander descent.
Adult actors are also needed for roles of parents, teachers and counselors. Actors should come prepared to read from the script; a monologue is not required. Rehearsals will begin the first week of October, with technical rehearsals the week of Nov. 7. School performances will take place Nov. 10, 11 and 12; public performances will take place Nov. 12, 13 and 14.
The Youngstown Playhouse is requiring actors in “The Gone Away Place” to be vaccinated against COVID-19. Exceptions will be made only for participants under age 12 or participants with medical conditions. For more information, click here.
