Youngstown wins PONY League World Series game

Puerto Rico will be Youngstown's next opponent.

WASHINGTON, Pa. — A nine-run fourth inning sent Youngstown past Washington County 10-2 in Saturday’s nightcap at the 2021 DICK’s Sporting Goods PONY League World Series.

Washington County scored two unearned runs in the first inning.

Three innings later, Youngstown sent 13 batters to the plate and scored nine times on six hits, three walks and one Washington County error.

Hunter Garvin doubled and scored to lead off the surge. Maddox Yost walked with the bases loaded, and Anthony Triveri drove in two runs on a single through the left side. Jackson Cheeks added an RBI single and Garvin batted again and hit a sacrifice fly.

Carter Wilson and Dom Cubellis contributed back-to-back run scoring doubles to right-center field.

Youngstown's Seth Walker pitched the first 3.1 innings and was relieved by Owens in the top of the fourth inning. Owens earned the victory and Jake Rynd finished on the mound with one inning of scoreless relief.

Sunday night at Lew Hays PONY Field, Youngstown will play Puerto Rico at 8:30.
