Boards by Angelica curates custom meat and cheese boards

Warren native Angelica Stiffy specializes in custom, artisan-style charcuterie boards featuring an assortment of meats paired with different accompaniments, such as crackers, fruit, cheese and sauces.

WARREN — Warren native Angelica Stiffy has combined her family’s tradition of making meat and cheese plates with her love for small and intricate projects to launch Boards by Angelica.

Her business specializes in custom, artisan-style charcuterie boards and boxes. According to www.webstaurantstore.com, "charcuterie" refers "to an assortment of meats that are paired with different accompaniments, such as toast, fruit, cheese and sauces."

These snacking trays have gained a recent uptick in popularity on social media for their visual appeal. 

Stiffy, who studied psychology at John Carroll University, began making charcuterie boards for her friends’ and family’s events, like holiday parties and bridal showers, while in college. 

What started out as a creative outlet developed into a newfound career path. 

“I was definitely working on everything (website, social media) for quite a while and I didn't want to launch anything until I felt it was up to my standard type of thing. I was a little bit nervous about that. But as I was getting closer to the holidays, I wanted to be able to do something for everyone that couldn't get together with their family or have something kind of to go and [COVID-19] friendly so I wanted to get everything out and ready for the holidays,” she said. 

Stiffy said Boards by Angelica serves areas between Cleveland and Pittsburgh, or, within a 60-mile radius of Warren. Products include charcuterie boards for large scale events.

“It's the focal point of an event or, you know, everybody loves to snack on something that could pick at and go over and see something new. It's like, half a piece to talk about and half [to eat],” she said. 

Although Stiffy encourages anyone to make their own charcuterie boards, she told Mahoning Matters that her skill set brings out flavors and textures that complement each other. 

“There's always a lot to look at when you're looking at [my boards]. It’s very layered and you'll probably see something new and find something to grab every time you come back to it,” she said. 

Stiffy said pricing on charcuterie boards depends on the customer's specific needs and the number of guests at the event. She also offers a variety of assorted boxes, perfect for being cheese board essentials “on the go.” 

Box options include: 

  • $15 Brie Box: Brie wheel paired with seasonal poached fruit and nuts
  • $50 and $65 boxes of assorted meats, cheeses, seasonal produce and crackers

For Stiffy, communication with her clients and accommodating their allergies and dietary needs is an important part of Boards by Angelica. 

“I would love somebody that’s very communicative and would love to see something special on the board,” she said. “[I] could put gluten-free crackers and try even vegan cheeses for people that are lactose sensitive or lactose intolerant.”

In the future, Stiffy is hoping to expand Boards by Angelica’s reach and is looking forward to hopefully working with local vendors and small businesses.
