WARREN — Habitat for Humanity of Mahoning Valley is participating in the National Women Build Week, which kicked off Tuesday, by rehabbing a house on Hazelwood Avenue in Warren.

This is a weeklong event created by Habitat International in partnership with Lowe's, and women are invited to devote at least one day to help families build strength, stability and independence through housing. The next build day is Saturday (March 14) at the Hazelwood location.

A few volunteer slots are still open, and no experience is necessary. To sign up, contact volunteer coordinator Alyssa Osborne at 330-743-7244, ext. 110, or aosborne@hfhmv.org, or click here.

"This is a great opportunity for women of all skill levels to come together to help families in need in the local community," Kristina Nicholas, director of development, said in a news release.

Homeowners are chosen by meeting HFHMV requirements for income, credit and willingness to partner. Anyone wishing to get more information on homeownership in Mahoning, Trumbull or Columbiana counties can contact Nicholas at knicholas@hfhmv.org or call 330-743-7244, ext. 101.

National Women Build Week, which takes place in collaboration with International Women's Day (which was Sunday), is a global initiative celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women, according to the release.

More than 98,000 women from all 50 states have volunteered at the previous National Women Build Week events since it began in Charlotte, N.C., in 1991.
