Mahoning Valley students’ artwork to be showcased at exhibition at YSU
YOUNGSTOWN — Youngstown State University will host the 2020 Northeastern Ohio Scholastic Art Awards Exhibition.
Artwork from students in seventh through 12th grade in Mahoning, Trumbull, Columbiana and Ashtabula counties will be showcased. The exhibition will be displayed through Jan. 29 in Bliss Hall's Judith Rae Solomon Gallery on the YSU campus. The gallery is open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The Scholastic Art Awards ceremony will take place at noon Jan. 25 in Bliss Hall's Ford Theater. The ceremony will feature awards given to students who received Gold and Silver Key awards as well as Honorable Mention awards.
From 688 individual and 27 portfolio regional entries, a panel of judges will select works to receive Honorable Mention, Silver and Gold keys and five nominations for the prestigious American Visions Awards. The American Visions Award and Gold Key finalists will be sent to New York City where they will compete for awards and possible scholarships with other student entries from across the nation.
The following schools are participating in the 2019 Northeastern Ohio Scholastic Art Awards Exhibition:
- Mahoning County: Austintown Fitch High School, Austintown Middle School, Boardman High School, Canfield High School, Canfield Village Middle School, Cardinal Mooney High School, Holy Family School, Jackson-Milton High School, Lowellville High School, Mahoning County Career and Technical Center, Poland Seminary High School, St. Christine School, South Range High School, Struthers High School, Ursuline High School, Valley Christian School, West Branch High School and Western Reserve High School.
- Trumbull County: Champion Middle School, Howland High School, Hubbard High School, Joseph Badger High Schools, LaBrae High School, Lakeview High School, Maplewood High School, Mathews High School, Mineral Ridge High School, Newton Falls High School, Niles McKinley High School, Niles Middle School, Trumbull Career and Technical Center, Warren G. Harding High School and Warren McGuffey Pk-8 School.
- Columbiana County: East Palestine High School, Leetonia High School, Quaker Digital Academy, Salem High School, United Local High School and Wellsville Jr. Senior High School.
- Ashtabula County: Grand Valley High School and Jefferson Area High School.
The Northeastern Ohio Scholastic Art Awards Exhibition is designed to encourage student creativity, provide the opportunity for enrichment by interaction with their contemporaries and bring student artwork into the public view.
Parking is available for a $5 fee in the M30 Wick Avenue parking deck. Those attending the awards ceremonies should enter Bliss Hall through the University Theatre lobby on the first floor.
