YOUNGSTOWN — The Beyond Expectations Barber College and its Community Fund will provide free haircuts to students in kindergarten through 12th grade from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 3.

The Back 2 School Haircut Event at BEBC, 709 E. Midlothian Blvd., also will offer free hotdogs and hamburgers. The goal for the event is to service 200 students.

"It's generous for Beyond Expectations Barber College and its Community Fund to give free haircuts to scholars, and I'm sure our families appreciate it," Justin Jennings, chief executive officer of the Youngstown City School District, said in a news release. "Even though the start of this school year is unusual without scholars, teachers and classes in our schools, a new haircut is a great way to start any school year."

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, YCSD will begin the school year fully remote. Remote instruction begins Sept. 8.

BEBC hosted its first free haircut event for students last year and decided to continue that tradition even though school will be different this year because of the pandemic.

The event will follow health and safety guidelines. Social distancing will be maintained and sanitation practices will be followed. Clients will be required to wear masks and sanitize their hands upon entry.

Donations from the community are being accepted to support the event. Checks may be made out to Beyond Expectations Community Fund, 2206 Romig Road, Akron Ohio 44320. Donors are asked to write "Back 2 School Haircut Event" in the memo line of the check.
