CANFIELD — Three interns have joined 898 Marketing, 5721 Shields Road, Suite A, as the first internship class of 2020.

"We have worked on developing a culture that not only embraces the opportunity to serve our community and clients, but to provide a unique experience for college students to experience what their education and passions can bring them with a career in marketing," Jeff Ryznar, 898 Marketing president, said in a news release.

"We're proud of the fact that our interns have gone on to successfully find a full-time position in the marketing and creative design fields with companies, including our own, and look forward to the next group of interns who will experience the same opportunities and responsibilities our internship program provides with our clients while continuing to help us improve this valuable initiative," Ryznar said.

The spring interns are:

  • Madeleine Abrigg, a senior at the University of Mount Union and a graduate of Cardinal Mooney High School. Abrigg is set to receive her bachelor of fine arts degree in graphic design and studio art. She also is studying photography, web design, animation and illustration. Abrigg is a creative design intern working directly with the creative design team on a variety of client requests, including logos, newsletters, website elements and print ads.
  • Jake Francisco, a senior at Youngstown State University and a graduate of Ursuline High School. He will graduate in December with a bachelor of science degree in business administration, majoring in marketing with a management track. Francisco is a marketing intern and is working on social media, website development, video production and more
  • Mike Francisco, a junior at YSU and a graduate of Ursuline High School. He is on track to graduate in May 2021 with a bachelor of science degree in business administration, majoring in advertising and public relations and minoring in marketing management. He is a marketing intern working on content development, blog writing, video production and more.

Peach Champagne Ale was based on last year's winning cookie, Pesche Con Crema by Christy Fullwood, at Mahoning Valley Historical Society's Cookie Table and Cocktails fundraiser. This year's Cookie Table and Cocktails event will take place from 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Basilica Social Hall, 343 Via Mount Carmel Ave. Youngstown.

Burgan Real Estate co-owner named

president of Women United for 2020

CANFIELD — Sue Filipovich, co-owner of Burgan Real Estate, has been named president of United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley's Women United.

Filipovich will serve through 2020 and lead the initiative, which supports the Success After 6 programs in Youngstown schools. She is an original steering committee member who was instrumental in working to assist in getting Women United off the ground.

"When our team of passionate women started Women United back in 2015, I had no idea how much of a need there was in our community until we started reaching out and helping one school at a time, one family at a time," Filipovich said in a news release. "Our team's goals were high, and yet we accomplished them and are continuing to grow this organization's reach each year. It is an honor to lead this group into the start of a new decade."

Formed in 2015, Women United is a movement of women who are united in creating opportunities for a better life for all with a focus on early education. Its mission is to empower and mobilize women to positively impact the lives of women, children and families in the Mahoning Valley.

Meridian HealthCare's annual

Winter Sprinter set for Saturday

CANFIELD — Meridian HealthCare's annual Winter Sprinter will take place Saturday at McMahon Hall and Mill Creek Canfield Bike Trail, 7574 state Route 46 (Columbiana-Canfield Road).

The event, sponsored by Home Savings Bank, begins with a 1-mile walk at 10 a.m. A 4-mile run begins at 10:45.

Participants can enjoy a free pancake breakfast at McMahon Hall after the race.

Proceeds from the event will help support Meridian HealthCare's prevention and recovery programs.

Greenwood Extra Mile Giveaway

winner picks up his new Equinox

AUSTINTOWN — The winner of the Greenwood Extra Mile Giveaway was given the key to success by his boss.

Greenwood Chevrolet, 4695 Mahoning Ave., and the United Way gave 10 finalists a chance to win either a 2019 Chevrolet Equinox or $15,000 in cash Feb. 13. One finalist, Russell Osman, was out of town and unavailable to be there. He asked his boss, Don Emerson, to choose a key in his place, and Emerson picked the winning key.

Osman picked up his new Equinox at Greenwood Chevrolet on Thursday.

Hope Foundation announces

2020 honorees for HOPE Award

YOUNGSTOWN — The Hope Foundation of the Mahoning Valley recently announced the honorees for the 2020 HOPE Award for Lifetime Achievement.

The winner will be announced at the 10th annual Wine for Hope, which will take place from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. April 24 at The Lake Club, 1140 Paulin Road, Poland.

All HOPE honorees will be recognized at the event. Honorees are:

  • Delphine Baldwin Casey, Youngstown Police Department (retired);
  • Brandon Perry, City Kids Care;
  • Holly Welch, Austintown Local School District;
  • Amy Zell, Hubbard Public Library.

The event will include a full dinner, wine tasting in a commemorative glass, entertainment and the awards ceremony. All proceeds from the event, including a silent auction and raffle baskets, will help better the lives of chronically and terminally ill children in the Mahoning Valley, according to a news release.

Prisma Integration expands global

manufacturing from Girard location

GIRARD — Prisma Integration, an Italian-owned, locally operated company, will have a ribbon-cutting at 2 p.m. March 5 for its new 9,000-square-foot electrical panel construction shop at its Mahoning Valley facility.

The expansion increases the company's global manufacturing and integration capabilities for industrial plant automation systems.

Prisma Integration's growth will generate employment opportunities for degreed electrical engineers and skilled professionals, such as control panel assemblers, the company said. The company is anticipating the need to hire four full-time electrical engineers and up to four more control panel assemblers, in addition to adding a second shift, before the end of 2020.

"In a time when businesses and industries seem to be leaving the Youngstown market, Prisma is expanding and offering growth, positive economic impact and the latest in technology," George Bulick, Prisma president, said in a news release.

Three-part forestry workshop

scheduled at MCCTC

YOUNGSTOWN — The Mahoning Soil & Water Conservation District recently announced its partnership with the Ohio Farm Bureau of Mahoning County, Northeastern Ohio Forestry Association, Mahoning County Career & Technical Center and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Forestry to present a three-part forestry workshop series this spring.

The three workshops will take place at MCCTC, 7300 N. Palmyra Road, Canfield.

Agricultural specialists and technicians will discuss strategies for logging activity, including proper timber harvest standards, best management practices for controlling invasive species and reducing soil erosion and more.

Here are the dates for the 2020 Timber Education Series, Money Can Grow on Trees:

  • March 24: Proper Timber Harvest;
  • April 21: Invasive Species Control;
  • May 12: Timber Stand Improvement.

Each session includes a buffet-style dinner at 5:30 p.m., followed by the workshop.

new behavioral health counselor

YOUNGSTOWN — ONE Health Ohio has added behavioral health counselor John Kelly to its team of health care professionals.

Kelly will be providing behavioral health services to child, adolescent and adult patients at ONE Health Ohio at Falls Family Care, 175 E. Broad Street, Newton Falls.

Kelly received his bachelor's degree from Youngstown State University and his master's degree in clinical counseling from Walden University in Minneapolis, Minn. He has been working in behavioral health since 2015.

Counselors at ONE Health Ohio work with individuals, couples and families on coping with difficult life events, including abuse, addiction, adoption, anxiety, ADHD, child behavioral issues, depression, family struggles, grief, marriage and relationship issues, post-traumatic stress disorder, trauma and more.

declares quarterly cash dividend

CANFIELD — The Farmers National Banc Corp. board of directors on Tuesday declared a quarterly cash dividend of $0.11 per share, representing a 22 percent increase over the same period last year.

The common stock cash dividend will have a record date of March 13 and is payable to shareholders on March 31.

"I am pleased to announce the board of directors has approved a 22 percent year-over-year increase to the company's first-quarter cash dividend representing our strong financial performance, our confidence in the future and our commitment to returning capital to shareholders," Kevin J. Helmick, president and CEO, said in a news release. "Our annual cash dividend has increased every year since 2015, and I am proud of this consistent performance."

Akron Children's Hospital

acquires East Liverpool practice

AKRON — Akron Children's Hospital will open its newest pediatrics practice Tuesday (March 3) in East Liverpool.

Akron Children's has acquired the practice of pediatrician Dr. Marilyn Tiu. The new practice is known as Akron Children's Hospital Pediatrics, East Liverpool.

Dr. Tiu will continue to see patients but in a new location: the Calcutta Square building at 15655 state Route 170.
