Here’s how the Mahoning Valley is celebrating the Fourth of July — fireworks, parades and more

Coming off of 2020's socially distanced Fourth of July, there's no shortage of patriotic events in honor of Independence Day 2021.

Happening now

"American Stripes" at the Butler Institute of American Art

Where: 524 Wick Ave., Youngstown

When: 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday (except July 4, when the Butler is closed); and noon to 4 p.m. on July 11 and the last day, July 18.

What: An exhibition of hand pinstriping art "from some of the country's top artists," according to the museum. Pinstriping began "sometime in the 1950s" and has grown more diverse in that time.

Newton Falls 4th of July Festival

Where: Newton Falls Community Park along South Center Street

When: 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. July 1; 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. July 2; 1 p.m. to 11 p.m. July 3 & 4

Admission is free. Also features food, rides, music and fireworks.


Saturday, July 3

Red, White and Blue Putt Event

Where: Putt Putt of Warren, 3937 Youngstown Road SE, Warren

When: Noon to 6 p.m. July 4

Salem 4th of July Celebration and Fireworks

When & where: 5 p.m. July 3 at Waterworth Memorial Park, 883 E. School St., Salem

Features food and music; fireworks display begins at 9:30 p.m.

"Yankee Doodle Dandy" at Robins Theatre

When & where: 7 p.m. July 3, 160 E. Market St., Warren

What: This 1942 film to be shown is a theatrical biography of the life of "the Man Who Owned Broadway," entertainer and playwright George M. Cohan (James Cagney), who wrote "The Yankee Doodle Boy," "You're a Grand Old Flag" and "Over There."

It also stars Joan Leslie, Walter Huston and Richard Whorf. The film won eight Academy Awards, including Best Actor for Cagney.

Fireworks at the Canfield Fairgrounds

Where: 7265 Columbiana-Canfield Road, Canfield

When: Gates open at 5 p.m. on July 3; fireworks launch between 9:45 p.m. and 10 p.m.

Admission: $10 per car; food trucks will offer Fair fare and "be on-hand with your favorites."


Sunday, July 4

Struthers School Foundation July 4th 5K and Kids Fun Run

Where: Begins in the Pizza Joe's parking lot, 960 Fifth St.

When: 5K race starts at 11:30 a.m.; Fun Run starts at 12:45 p.m.

Entry: $10 for 5K; $5 for Fun Run

43rd Annual Austintown 4th of July Parade

When & where: Begins at noon on July 4 at the intersection of Raccoon and Kirk roads in Austintown

Struthers 4th of July Parade

When & where: Begins at 1 p.m. on July 4 at 982 Fifth Street

Walk-up entries will not be accepted the day of the parade For the latest information, visit the City of Struthers on Facebook.

Guilford Lake's Annual July 4th Boat Parade

When & where: Begins at 2 p.m., 6835 E. Lake Road, Lisbon; lineup at the state beach boat docks; judging at the boat ramp at Guilford Grill

East Palestine Fire Department Fireworks

When & where: 5 p.m. July 4 at Station 2, 67 E. Clark St., East Palestine

Food trucks will be on hand starting at 5 p.m. The Project Band will take the stage at 7 p.m. A fireworks display begins at 10 p.m.

Cruise-In at Austintown Quaker Steak & Lube

When & where: 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. July 4 and each Sunday, 5800 Patriot Blvd., Austintown

Admission is free. Includes live entertainment, awards and a 50/50 raffle. Weather permitting. Face coverings must be worn except when eating or drinking.

Brass Metropolis playing at National Packard Museum

When & where: Begins at 5:30 p.m. at the National Packard Museum

Admission is free. The band will be playing the music of Chicago, Van Morrison, Joe Cocker and Tower of Power as part of the Packard Band 4th of July Celebration. For more information, see the event on Facebook.

Mahoning Valley Scrappers Game and Fireworks

When & where: Game at 7:05 p.m. July 4 at Eastwood Field, 111 Eastwood Blvd., Niles

Game will be followed by a fireworks display. Tickets can be purchased here.

W.D. Packard Concert Band & Fireworks

Where: South Lawn Band Shell, 1703 Mahoning Ave., Warren

When: Begins at 8 p.m. on July 4; 7 p.m. on July 18, Aug. 1 and Aug. 15; 3 p.m. on Sept. 12 and Oct. 10

A Zambelli fireworks display will follow the concert. For more information, visit PackardMusicHall.com.

Columbiana Fireworks

Where: Shaker Woods Village, 217 State Route 7, Columbiana

When: Gates open at 6 p.m. July 4

Admission is free. There will be food trucks and entertainment.


Monday, July 5

Eastern Gateway Community College campuses will be closed July 5 in observance of the holiday.

Canfield 4th of July Parade

When & where: 10 a.m. July 5 on the Village Green at the intersection of U.S. Route 224 and state Route 46

Float judging begins at 9:15 a.m. and offers cash prizes. For more information, visit Canfield4thofJuly.com.

47th Annual Firecracker 4 Mile Run and Kids Fun Run

When: Kids Fun Run begins at 8:15 a.m.; 4-Mile Run and Walk at 8:30 a.m.

Where: Begins and ends at the Village Green, at the intersection of U.S. Route 224 and state Route 46

Registration: $20 through July 4 (and you get a T-shirt) and $25 on race day; an optional $8 T-shirt for Kids Fun Run

Boardman Park's Fireworks

When & where: Youngstown Area Community Concert Band will perform at 7 p.m. Aug. 28; fireworks begin at dark.
