Shoppers looking for deals and a chance to support needy animals can check out this weekend’s Angels for Animals gigantic garage sale at the Canfield Fairgrounds.

The community packed the grounds, shopped, and donated “for the critters.”

Volunteers kicked off the event Friday, from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.

“Everything we do here goes to help the homeless animals,” said Diane Less, co-founder of Angels for Animals. “It takes about 150 volunteers a day to do this for the whole weekend; it gets intense.”

Most items for sale include furniture, books, electronics, clothing, antiques and donated trinkets.

Community members and organizations like Bearded Brothers Moving Group donated items to the sale.

“We got a bonus with the Bearded Brothers. They said, ‘Oh, we’d love to help,’” Less said. “Yeah, these guys brought 15 loads of furniture. We have so much furniture that that barn is packed.”

According to the map on the Angels for Animals website, there are seven buildings to peruse. Furniture is located in Building 22, while bargain finds are stocked in Building 25.

First, you’ll want to stop by Ruritan Dining Hall, Building 23, to purchase a wristband or a stamp to enter all the buildings.

The garage sale is open Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. with a $3 admission fee. There’s no price for admission on Sunday from 10 a.m. 2 p.m., and everything is half-price.

Then starting at 2:15 p.m. on Sunday, to wrap up the garage sale, there’s a special deal where customers pay $15 and fill shopping bags with anything they can grab.

Angels for Animals rescues animals in need. Volunteers arrange adoptions, and experts provide veterinary services and grooming at the Angel Wing.

The shelter is located at 4750 West South Range Road in Canfield.
