Youngstown Phantoms select 8 new players during first phase of draft
The Youngstown Phantoms selected eight new players Monday evening during phase one of the 2023 United States Hockey League draft.

Youngstown selected Dallas Stars 16 U defenseman Carter Murphy who is from Houston, Texas. In 53 games, Murphy scored two goals, 22 assists, and served as a team captain.
Next Youngstown selected defenseman Dylan Lebret, who is from Mead, Washington. Lebret had success playing up in his first year at Shattuck-Saint Mary’s boarding school by scoring three goals and 35 assists in 57 games.
Lebret also earned an invitation to USA Hockey’s NTDP Evaluation Camp in March.
Evan Jardine plays center and was selected by Youngstown during the team’s fifth round. He’s from Bloomfield Hills, Michigan and played on Little Caesars, one of the top midget teams in the country this past year.
Jardine scored 47 goals and 90 assists in 81 games. With elite hockey sense, Jardine was the second leading scorer on the team.
Youngstown also selected Fox Motors center Owen Boucher; Toronto Marlboros center Matheas Stark; Jan Chovan from Bratislava, Slovakia; Fox Motors 15O defenseman Aiden Lawson of Eagle River, Alaska; and left side Michael Munroe from River Rats 15O.
Phantoms make finals
The Phantoms will participate in the second phase of the 2023 USHL draft at noon on Tuesday. After the draft Tuesday, all attention turns to the Eastern Conference Finals of the USHL Clark Cup Playoffs.
The Phantoms head to the Chicago Steel for the first contest of the best-of-five game series on Friday.
Youngstown hosts Chicago at the Covelli Centre for games three and four on Monday and Tuesday.
