Man sentenced to 11 years in prison on meth charge
LIMA - A Dayton man found with nearly 2 pounds of methamphetamine has been sentenced to 11 years in prison.
On Wednesday, 38-year-old Gregory Napier reached a plea agreement of eight years mandatory prison time and 36 months non-mandatory.
In March of this year, Napier was charged with one count of aggravated possession of drugs and tampering with evidence. According to court documents, the West Central Ohio Crime Task Force received information on Jan. 27 that Napier was traveling from Dayton to Allen County to distribute 2 pounds of methamphetamine. He was to deliver the meth to a residence located in Jackson Township.
Napier was seen driving in Jackson Township, and the Allen County Sheriff's Office initiated a traffic stop. Napier was then removed from the vehicle.
A K-9 unit from the Lima Police Department was dispatched to the scene and alerted to the odor of drugs. Investigators conducted a probable cause search but did not locate any evidence of drugs inside the vehicle.
Napier pled guilty to one count of aggravated possession of drugs, a first-degree felony, and one count of tampering with evidence, which is a third-degree felony.
Allen County Common Pleas Court Judge Terri Kohlrieser waived a $10,000 fine that was placed on one of Napier's counts.
Napier will serve his minimum sentence of 11 years consecutively, placing the mandatory prison sentence before the non-mandatory.
