Lawmakers seek more funding for combat vehicles made at Lima plant

WASHINGTON — U.S. Reps. Tim Ryan of Howland, D-13th, and Bill Johnson of Marietta, R-6th, are among a group of 15 Ohio lawmakers seeking support for additional funding for U.S. Army Stryker A1 combat vehicles.

The lawmakers sent a letter to Reps. Betty McCollum and Ken Calvert, leaders on the House Committee on Appropriations, urging support for additional funding, including a fiscal year 2022 request of $139 million for the production of 41 Stryker A1 vehicles, critical assets to operations at the Joint Services Manufacturing Center in Lima, a news release states.

“Stryker A1 production is critical to maintaining the continued viability of the Joint Services Manufacturing Center (JSMC) in Lima, Ohio,” the letter states. “The JSMC is a national asset instrumental in ensuring current and future production of combat vehicles for the U.S. Military and our allies.”

The fiscal year 2022 National Defense Authorization Act, which awaits President Joe Biden’s signature after passage in both the House and Senate, includes $1.12 billion to support the Stryker vehicles, short of the $139 million included in the version presented by the House Armed Services Committee, the release states.
