Patty Durkin has been promoted to chief human resources officer at Aim Transportation Solutions.

Durkin began her career at Aim in 2006 as the human resources manager, and was later promoted to vice president of human resources.

“I’m honored by the promotion, and I feel blessed to work at Aim,” Durkin said in a news release. “It just shows the level of respect and appreciation Aim ownership shows to our work.”

Scott Fleming, Aim co-president, said the company has grown from 300 to more than 1,000 employees since Durkin was hired.

“I truly believe that no company reaches this level of growth without a cornerstone like Patty,” Fleming said.

Durkin earned a bachelor’s degree in human resources and an associate degree in business management from Youngstown State University. She is also a graduate of Ursuline High School and the Choffin Career & Technical Center’s Legal/Medical Secretary program.

Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley hires finance director

Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley has hired Devon Cleland as its finance director.

This is the second time in the past year the foundation has created a new position as it works to grow its capacity to better support local nonprofits, a news release states.

Cleland will be responsible for processing financial transactions for all of the foundation’s funds at trustee banks and financial institutions, reconciling monthly statements for the foundation and its affiliated foundations, responding to donor requests and processing gifts to CFMV’s 160-plus funds, supporting the annual audit alongside President Shari Harrell and managing all of the foundation’s accounting activity.

“Devon brings much-welcomed expertise to the Community Foundation at a time when our organization is growing and facing new, exciting challenges in the work we do and the support we provide to nonprofits and donors,” Harrell said in the release. “The work she’s doing — and has done already — will help the Community Foundation have the biggest impact possible for years to come.”

Cleland has a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree in accounting from Youngstown State University and a Master of Professional Accountancy degree from West Virginia University. She previously worked as an auditor for Ernst & Young and performed assistant controller and controller level work in the private sector.

BRITE Energy Innovators appoints 4 new board members

BRITE Energy Innovators this week announced the appointment of four new board members.

The new board members, who began their three-year terms effective Jan. 1, are:

  • Alexander Fitzsimmons, senior director, ClearPath;
  • Jonathan Bridges, managing director, Automotive, JobsOhio;
  • Courtney Gerowitz, startup community lead, Amazon Web Services;
  • Heather Taylor-Miesle, senior vice president of Advocacy and Regional Conservation at American Rivers.

“We have worked hard to ensure BRITE’s board and leadership represents a variety of experts from all facets of government, nonprofit, corporate and academia,” Rick Stockburger, BRITE’s president and CEO, said in a news release. “The nation is taking notice of the Voltage Valley, and these new leaders, along with an already incredible board, are ready to keep impacting our area and the world.”

Alley lighting to raise colorectal cancer awareness

ONE Health Ohio, in conjunction with the city of Youngstown and JAC Management, is lighting Huntington Bank Community Alley blue Friday in recognition of National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month.

Huntington Bank Community Alley is under the Market Street bridge in Youngstown.

“There are often no signs or symptoms of colorectal cancer — that’s why it’s so important to get screened,” Dr. Justin Pykare of ONE Health Ohio said in a news release. “ONE Health Ohio is proud to join the cause in raising awareness for National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month.”

Screening can be scheduled at any of the seven ONE Health Ohio locations across Mahoning, Trumbull and Stark counties, the release states. To schedule an appointment, call 877-722-3303.

Columbiana Area Tourism Bureau elects leaders, board members

The Columbiana Area Tourism Bureau elected a new leadership team and board members at its recent February meeting.

Bryce Miner has been elected president; Rick Noel, vice president; and Tom Mackall, treasurer.

Outgoing President Terry McCoy will remain a board member and chair of the Joy of Christmas Committee, and outgoing Vice President Terry Shaffer has retired after 41 years of service with the city of Columbiana and seven years on the Columbiana Area Tourism Bureau board, a news release states.

Tom Mackall will continue serving as treasurer.

The new board members are Lana Wilt and Jeff Davidson.
