BUSINESS UPDATES | Sheely’s Furniture receives Design of the Year award
Sheely’s Furniture and Appliance was recently honored with the Interior Design of the Year award at an event hosted by the HBA of Cleveland at the Intercontinental Hotel.
Sheely’s was recognized with the award for its work on the HBA’s A Home for the Holidays Make a Wish Home campaign this past holiday season, a news release states.
“In partnering with the HBA and Make-A-Wish, we were not only able to raise funds and awareness through our local quarterly charity drive but also give back and be a larger part of such a wonderful cause,” Jessica Smith, Sheely’s principal owner, said in the release.
Chuck’s Greenhouses contributes $20K for rescue mission matching challenge
Chuck’s Greenhouses in North Jackson recently contributed $20,000 to the Rescue Mission of Mahoning Valley, and is challenging Mahoning Valley residents to match it.
Chuck Lehotsky, owner of Chuck’s Greenhouses, commended the rescue mission for the work it does and encouraged others to offer financial support, according to a news release.
“It is heartwarming to know that businesses in the Mahoning Valley care so much about the homeless in our community,” Janell Prater, the rescue mission’s communications and development coordinator, said in the release.

Junior Achievement announces Youth Market Day winners
Junior Achievement of Mahoning Valley on Tuesday announced the award winners of its Youth Market Day event at Eastwood Mall in Niles.
During the event on April 30, mall shoppers browsed the products and services created by young entrepreneurs who were responsible for their table setup, product sales, marketing and interaction with customers, a news release states.
The shoppers were able to vote on their favorite businesses for the People’s Choice Award, which went to Wise Guys Lawncare.
Ry’s and Shine Bakery was chosen Best of Show by a panel of volunteer judges. Caleb Spice was selected as Best Product.
State Farm agents to give back to Valley communities
State Farm is celebrating its 100th anniversary with a Community Impact Day on Thursday.
More than 700 State Farm agents will be helping out in communities throughout the state.
In the Mahoning Valley, agents will participate in a Habitat for Humanity project from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 977 Hazelwood Ave. SE, Warren, and a United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley food packing event from 10 a.m. to noon at 255 Watt St., Youngstown.
