BUSINESS UPDATES | Dawn Ochman receives 2022 ATHENA Award

Dawn Ochman, president and CEO of Dawn Incorporated, was named the recipient of the 2022 ATHENA Award on Thursday. The award, presented by the Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber and The Vindicator, “is given annually to recognize area business and professional women who have demonstrated excellence in their chosen career, provided leadership in the community and mentored or contributed to the growth of other professional women,” a news release states.

Ochman started her business in 1993 as a dump truck hauler with one truck and expanded to 30 trucks within 10 years, the release states. She later expanded into construction. This year, her company is completing a $12 million renovation of an aircraft maintenance hangar for the Air National Guard.

Thirty award nominees were honored at Thursday’s event at Waypoint 4180 in Canfield.

The 15th ATHENA Scholarship — a $1,500 award created in partnership with the Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley — was presented to Annabelle Himes, a student at Youngstown State University, the release states.

Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield also presented two $1,250 scholarships to Campbell Memorial High School senior Jazzlyn Flores and Beaver Local High School senior Leah Riccardo.

Lordstown Motors elects independent directors

Lordstown Motors Corp. announced Thursday at its annual meeting of stockholders that Joseph Anderson Jr., Laura Soave and Angela Strand have been elected as independent directors.

Strand, who has served as board chairwoman, is joining the Compensation Committee, a news release states.

Soave, chief brand officer of CrossCountry Mortgage, will serve on the Nominating and Corporate Governance Committee of the board of directors, the release states. Anderson, chairman and chief executive officer of TAG Holdings LLC, will serve as a member of the Audit Committee.

The board of directors also combined the roles of chairman of the board and CEO. Daniel Ninivaggi, the company’s current CEO, will serve in this role, the release states.

Mahoning County Children Services to host career fair

Mahoning County Children Services is looking to hire child welfare caseworkers and will host a career fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at its offices, 222 W. Federal St., Youngstown.

Candidates are asked to bring a current resume to the event. On-site interviews will be conducted, a news release states.

Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree in social work or a related field, such as psychology, sociology, human services, counseling, public health, criminal justice or child and family services.

Early Learning Center receives Five-Star Step Up To Quality Award

The Early Learning Center at the Jewish Community Center of Youngstown has received a Five-Star Step Up To Quality Award from the state.

Step Up To Quality is a rating system administered by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services that awards a one- to five-star rating to learning and development programs that exceed basic licensing standards, a news release states.

“Early experiences last a lifetime,” Adrienne Achenbach, JCC Early Learning Center director, said in the release. “High-quality early learning and development experiences provide the basis for the brain’s development and directly impact how successful children are in kindergarten and beyond. We’re proud to help lay the foundation for success in school and life for our students.”

The Early Learning Center is open from 6:45 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday for children ages 6 weeks through 5 years.
