Boardman holistic health business continues to give back to community, recently expands

Dr. Ted Suzelis prides himself on being a vital resource for holistic, natural care to the Mahoning Valley community to help individuals live longer and better.

He owns the only naturopathic health center in a 50-mile radius of Boardman: Ohio Naturopathic Wellness Center. He’s been seeing Mahoning Valley patients for more than 15 years and just added a new doctor to the staff at the Boardman wellness center.

“The inspiration for opening my business in 2009 stems from my upbringing and a deep-rooted passion for holistic health,” said. Dr. Suzelis.

Influenced by his mother’s enthusiasm for natural living, Dr. Suzelis realized healthcare was his calling and has been practicing since 2001 at local health centers.

“My journey led me to discover naturopathic medicine, which combined my interest in science with a natural approach to healing,” Dr. Suzelis said. “Naturopathic medicine’s ability to combine science, nature, and compassion creates a powerful, personalized approach to care.”

He said this whole-person approach helps patients regain vitality and confidence and reminds him daily of why he loves what he does.

Understanding naturopathic medicine and holistic treatments

Naturopathic medicine focuses on natural therapies and wellness care to address the root of the problem instead of solely treating symptoms.

“Our business offers a holistic approach to health that works alongside traditional medical care, helping patients address both acute and chronic health concerns effectively. We’re here to guide individuals in improving their overall well-being and often collaborate with their medical teams to ensure seamless care,” said Dr. Suzelis.

To meet the growing needs of Mahoning Valley patients, Dr. Suzelis welcomed Dr. Rachael O’Connell to the team at Ohio Naturopathic Wellness Center in Boardman.

“The addition of Dr. O’Connell has allowed us to expand our services and minimize wait times, ensuring patients can start their wellness journey without unnecessary delays,” he said. “Our commitment extends beyond the services we provide in our office. It’s about building lasting relationships, creating accessible care, and giving back to the causes that matter most to the people we serve.”

Suzelis said he loves seeing the positive impact his care has on people from all walks of life—teachers, truck drivers, and professionals alike.

“Knowing that our services help them stay healthy, excel in their work, and build financial stability is incredibly rewarding. Keeping our practice simple and affordable allows us to make personalized, high-quality care accessible to everyone, which is something I take great pride in,” he said.

Ohio Naturopathic Wellness Center has been a longstanding supporter of the Autism Society of Mahoning Valley since Dr. Suzelis organized a 5-K benefit run in 2014.

“This partnership has become deeply personal,” he said. “My wife, Robin Suzelis, now serves as the Information and Referral Director for the Autism Society, and I have two sons on the autism spectrum. The programs and support offered by the Autism Society have been pivotal for our family, and giving back to this organization allows us to help others navigate their journeys with similar resources and support.”

Ohio Naturopathic Wellness Center is located at 755 Boardman-Canfield Road in Suite D3 in Boardman.
