Popular sporting goods store coming to the Mahoning Valley, now hiring

A popular sporting goods store is coming to the Mahoning Valley.

Academy Sports + Outdoors will be opening in the former DSW and Michael’s store in the plaza near Walmart on South Avenue in Boardman.

A sign recently went up announcing the store’s plans to open in the area. The company has two other stores in Ohio, one in Dayton and one in Zanesville.

Academy Sports + Outdoors is one of the nation’s largest sporting goods and outdoor retailers, which has been around for more than 80 years and has more than 22,000 employees in the U.S., according to the company’s website.

An opening date has not been announced, however; the company is now hiring.
