Regional Chamber recognizing local company co-founder after 75 years of business

A local accounting and business consulting firm is celebrating its 75-year anniversary working with clients in 17 offices across the nation, starting in northeast Ohio.

The Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber will be honoring one of the three co-founders of Hill Barth & King CPAs and Consultants, Wallace “Wally” King.

He and Warren native Gary Wagner will be honored at the annual breakfast at 7:30 a.m. April 10 at Waypoint 4180 in Canfield.

King is now 101-years-old, but he started HBK CPAs and Consultants in Youngstown in 1949.

King is also a World War Two veteran who served as a combat pilot and received the Purple Heart, according to the Best Defense Foundation.

After 75 years in business, HBK ranks number 46 among the top nation’s 50 largest accounting and business consulting firms with 17 offices in Pennsylvania, Florida, New Jersey, New York and Delhi, India.

James Dascenzo is a local CPA based in Youngstown and the national director of HBK Manufacturing Solutions.

“The one thing that we have throughout the entire firm, and we always have had, it’s great people,” Dascenzo said. “The leadership of our firm always strive to be the best, and we’ve always looked towards the future and continued growth.”

Dascenzo has worked at HBK for 31 years.

He attributes the company’s longtime success to internal personnel growth, cumulative training and “encouraging people to do what they’re good at.”

In 2019, Dascenzo was named Business Professional of the Year by the Youngstown Warren Regional Chamber of Commerce.

“We have a great group of younger folks coming up,” Dascenzo said. “I hope that as they move up, they continue to invest in the community and be a part of the communities that we’re in. That’s something that HBK has always been very strong in promoting as a firm: be active and involved in the community.”
