Planned plant closure impacting around 60 employees in Trumbull County

A Trumbull County plant that produces automotive parts is set to close in 2025, impacting more than 60 residents.

On July 14, Aptiv’s facility in Howland Township is set to close, according to a letter sent by the local chapter of the IUE-CWA union.

“We will be meeting with management again over the next few weeks to discuss ways to soften the blow to the membership of Local 717,” leaders of the union wrote.

House Majority Whip Nick Santucci, who represents Howland Township, said he’s working with Lake to River economic development team, company officials and union leadership to identify possible solutions.

Forty-six production employees will be out of work when the plant closes, as well as 17 trade workers.

According to the letter, Aptiv told the union the decision has nothing to do with the Aptiv/EDS separation that was announced earlier in 2025.

“This has been planned since they began outsourcing the copper business in August 2022,” the letter says. “The process of getting the product produced in Mexico and validated and approved by the customer has been ongoing since then.”

“Aptiv’s Plant 10 closure and the loss of 63 jobs is a disappointing announcement for Howland and Trumbull County,” he said. “My office stands ready to support all involved if necessary and appropriate.”
