Mahoning Valley Sparkle Market location to close after 73 years of service
After more than seven decades of service to the South Side community, the Sparkle Markets location on South Avenue in Youngstown announced it will permanently close in mid-June.
Store owner Tony Modarelli said the decision comes as a result of ongoing financial challenges, including rising operational costs and declining sales that have made continuing operations at the location unsustainable.
“We’ve been on the South Side for 73 years,” he said. “We thank everyone for their loyalty over the years. It’s been an honor to serve this community for so long.”
Modarelli said the store will continue to honor advertised specials over the next week as scheduled.
“Following that, inventory will be gradually sold down ahead of the official closing,” he said.
Modarelli added that customers are encouraged to visit during this time to take advantage of store-wide savings and to bid farewell to a long-standing neighborhood institution.
He said Sparkle Markets remains committed to serving its neighbors at their other locations throughout Northeast Ohio, Western Pennsylvania, and West Virginia.
