Family-owned clothing store officially open in Boardman emphasizes giving back

Fresh inventory is coming in at the newly-opened, family-owned apparel and accessories store in Boardman called HOUZE Of Flavaz.

The new local clothing source is the culmination of a lifelong dream and continuous work for owner Robert Lee Thurston Jr. and his wife Melissa Thurston.

Robert is an entrepreneur originally from Youngstown’s East side.

He’s also a certified tutor in Ohio and working to finish his business management degree at Eastern Gateway.

“HOUZE of Flavaz is about bringing different styles and different brands to the community from casual attire to urban wear and all walks of ethnicity,” Robert said.

According to the owners, they’ll be carrying name-brand shirts, shoes, jeans and shorts sets in varying sizes and styles.

“HOUZE of Flavaz is a very family-oriented business, and my wife is my partner on this journey,” Robert said. “We strive for the best quality and customer service for the community, and we also like to give back, which is why this is all so special to me and my family.”

The Thurston family hosted a grand opening ceremony for the business alongside friends and the Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber on June 6.

They brought out two food trucks, a face painting station, jersey raffles, free haircuts for kids and giveaways.

Coming up, they’re planning on hosting events and raffles for the community, with a focus on supporting local youth.
