Local stylist celebrating one year of owning The Salon at Creekside in Boardman

The first of July marks one year since Jaimie Shaver took over ownership of The Salon at Creekside in Boardman, which has been open since 2000.

In that year, Jaimie added new beauty services, grew her team of loyal stylists who stayed on during the exchanging of ownership and made the salon her own.

“We have a lot of clients that come to standing appointments once a week, and they love it because they can come get their hair done, and they can come over here to the other side, get their nails done, get a pedicure,” she said.

Jaimie grew up in New Middletown, spending lots of time in her grandmother’s salon called Fiesta.

“She did hair for over 40 years and when I was able to go with her to the salon, I loved it,” Jaimie said. “I saw all the ladies under the dryers; everyone was talking, having a good time. I loved it, and ever since then, even through high school I tried other jobs and opportunities, I always knew I’d come back to hair.”

In 2010, Jaimie graduated top of her class at the former Austintown Casal Aveda Institute and got her first stylist job at The Salon at Creekside.

“I started here the day after I graduated, and I’ve been here ever since. I couldn’t imagine being anywhere else,” she said.

A few years later, Jaimie also started a wedding cosmetology service with her sister called Omni Beauty LLC.

“I started in 2017, and that is kind of what set this whole thing off,” she said. “We average about 45 to 55 weddings a year. I was doing the wedding business and booth running full time.”

That experience led to Jaimie wanting to spend more time at home with her three kids and an agreement with the former owners of the salon to take over in 2024.

“It’s a big step in your career, going from behind the chair now you’re the face of the whole business,” she said. “Ever since then, we’ve been on the up and up. We have such an amazing group of people here and we encourage everybody that works here to be creative, be themselves. There’s no competition here between us.”

Shaver is married to Jordan Shaver, chief operating officer of the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County.

“We have a tenant system, so there’s no employees,” Jordan said. “They rent their booths and chairs or suites. We inherited 11 in the salon, and now have about 22 who are full time and part time. Part time folks will share a booth with somebody else and help each other out.”

There are 18 booths for haircuts and color at Jaimie’s salon, as well as four suites for nails and massages.

“Since I took over ownership, a lot of the girls have said we’re excited to come back to work now, it’s really livened up here,” Jaimie said. “We’re bringing on another new girl in July, who’s going to be offering full, full body waxing services. Right now we have three nail techs.”

Jaimie’s advice for aspiring hairstylists and business owners is to never give up.

“As a salon owner, the best thing that I could do for everybody here who works here or wants to work here, is give them opportunity and support and encourage them,” Jaimie said. “If there’s anybody out there who is considering going into this industry or owning I would encourage them to stop in here to see how things work here.”

The Salon at Creekside is located at 1449 Boardman Canfield Road Suite 200 in Boardman and services are by appointment only.
