Walk-in clinics with Mercy Health offer fast treatment for sprains, burns, and more

When you need to be treated for an unexpected injury or medical condition in a hurry, Mercy Health’s walk-in primary care providers offer options for same-day examinations.

Dr. John Manenti is a Mercy Health family medicine physician and the medical director of walk-in care.

“This is the time of year when we see an uptick in injuries and heat-related concerns,” Dr. Manenti said. “Whether it’s a sprained ankle, sunburn or signs of heat exhaustion, our walk-in care teams are trained to respond quickly and effectively so patients can get back to enjoying summer.”

Some of the most common health issues Mercy Health – Youngstown sees during the summer including allergy and asthma flare-ups as well as heat illnesses.

According to Mercy Health, summer temperatures can lead to dehydration, nausea, dizziness or confusion.

Walk-in care centers are fully equipped to handle and treat summer heat symptoms by helping patients cool down, rehydrate and recover before symptoms worsen.

Walk-in clinics can do X-rays and set splints for outdoor summer injuries like sprains and fractures, as well as diagnose and treat ear infections from swimming.

Too much time outdoors can lead to painful burns, rashes or allergic reactions to insect bites and stings.

Walk-in clinics offer evaluation and medication to relieve symptoms and prevent complications.

Doctors with Mercy Health recommend residents come to area walk-in care clinics for non-life-threatening concerns, but for more urgent conditions like chest pain or severe injuries, emergency rooms are the best option.
